As of 2023, MYBS is looking to change the Fall Baseball program to provide a better experience for all participants. The 1st/2nd grade program will remain the same, however the grades will be split into two different times to make the fields less congested. Medfield will be once again participating in the Sharon Fall Baseball League for grades 3 through 6. The SFBL had not been run the prior three years due to COVID. The SFBL hosts all games in Sharon on the weekend, start times are determined by Sharon.
The Fall program will introduce the FUNdamentals of baseball. Each session will start with drills and skills development, followed by a 2 inning scrimmage (coach pitch) and end with a team race around the bases. Please note that we are going to be separating the grades this year, due to overcrowding of fields last Fall.

We will do our best to accommodate requests for children to play together; all teams will be playing at the same time and location so carpooling should not be an issue.
Unfortunately MYBS does not allow Non-Medfield residents and Kindergarteners to participate in this program. MYBS would not be able to accommodate all requests due to field and team size constraints. Note - Medfield Park & Rec runs our Kinder level and below sports programs.
MYBS will be participating in the Sharon Fall baseball league for 3rd through 6th graders. We hope to have at least 2 teams per grade (5th and 6th may be combined). Games will be held over the course of six Saturdays in September and October at the Deb Sampson Fields in Sharon. We will also be supplementing the season with 4 to 6 games at Metacomet (in-town game or versus a surrounding program like DS).
Younger grades play earlier on Saturdays. MYBS does NOT have control over the schedule, it is created by Sharon. Sharon provided a best estimate of start times, it all depends on the number of towns/teams:

Fall baseball for 7th grade is a transition year from the 'Little League diamond' (Metacomet) to the 'big diamond' at Memorial or Schilling fields. Next Spring, the 7th graders will compete with 8th graders on 60 foot pitching mounds and 90 foot base paths (regulation baseball fields). The 50/70 program (50 foot mound, 70 foot base-path) is designed to gradually introduce players to larger fields and to prepare them for that big jump in field sizes AND rules. Players will learn how to take leads, steal when pitches are thrown, pickoff moves, etc.
At this time we are still trying to work out details of a program the kids can join, or if we create our own with surrounding towns similar to 2022, which was the first year MYBS offered a 50/70 program.
Games will likely be on weekends against surrounding towns, we hope to host games at Shonda Schilling too. The season will start after Labor Day and end the last weekend in October. Due to the earlier sunsets, weeknight games/practices may need to be adjusted.
