MYBS spring in-town baseball program is focused on creating a fun, inclusive experience for all players at every age and skill level. Our programs are offered to children in Grades 1 through 9. The spring season runs from late April to early June. The leagues are:

Grade 1: Instructional - Players are taught the basics of baseball with coaches pitching and every player participating in the field. Practice/games are twice a week. The first 45 minutes is dedicated to instruction, the last 45 minutes is a game (generally two innings.) No score is kept, no outs are recorded, and every player gets a chance to hit each inning. Players are assigned to teams randomly.

Grade 2: A Ball - Players move from the tee to coaches pitching and, by mid-season, players getting a chance to pitch for the first time with the coach. Practice/games are twice a week, no score is kept, and outs are recorded. An inning is 3 outs or each player getting a chance to bat--whichever happens first. The emphasis is still on teaching fundamentals and helping each player develop confidence. Players are assigned to teams randomly.

Grade3: AA Ball - This is a major transition year-- team standings (with wins and losses) are kept, kids pitch and catch, there are 10 players in the field, and balls and strikes are called (5 balls, 3 strikes). All teams qualify for the playoffs and winners get a chance to play on Championship Day! Players are selected for teams using the MYBS Uniform Draft Policy (see link at the top of the page).

Grades 4/5: AAA Ball - All 4th graders and some 5th graders based on the results of tryouts for Majors.

All 4th graders should sign up for AAA in registration--no tryouts are required. 5th graders interested in trying out for Majors (see below) should sign up for Majors during registration. MYBS will not know the number of 5th graders eligible to play in Majors until registration closes and tryouts are held in early Spring. If your 5th grade child is not interested in trying out for Majors, select AAA during registration. AAA adheres to all Little League baseball rules. Players are selected for teams using the MYBS Uniform Draft Policy (see link at the top of the page).

Majors-- 5th graders selected through tryouts/prior year evaluations and all 6th graders.

For 5th graders: Tryouts are used as the primary determination of being selected to a Majors team.  Evaluations from the prior year Spring, Summer, and Fall baseball will be used to help make decisions if they are available.  A lot can change from the previous Spring season so the tryout evaluations are the most useful.  Evaluators will be selected by the grade coordinators and they will NOT have a child participating in the tryout.  5th & 6th grade coaches will be running the stations and organizing the activities at the tryout.

This is a competitive process. The final number of slots for 5th graders is determined by the number of teams in the Majors and the number of 6th graders eligible players signed up AND a determination if the players would be a good fit for competition in Majors. For example, if there were 4 teams with 11 players each (44 total) and 20 6th graders signed up to play, there would be 24 slots for 5th graders. Obviously, we wont know the actual number of slots until registration has closed and the final number of players and teams is established.

For 6th gradersAll 6th graders make Majors.

The Majors adhere to all Little League Baseball rules. Players are selected for teams using the MYBS Unifrom Draft Policy (see link at the top of the page.)

Babe Ruth-- U13, U14, and U15, achieve the age of 13 on or after May 1 of the year of play (current year), and are no older than the age of 15 on or prior to April 30 of the next year. Spring Babe Ruth is a travel league. Depending on U13 registration numbers, U13's will play in their own division.  If there are not enough U13's to form a team, then those U13's who still choose to play will play up a division with U14's and U15's. Games are played on the larger, regulation fields at the High School and at Memorial. Players are selected for teams using the MYBS Uniform Draft Policy (see link at the top of the page.)

Babe Ruth Bat Rules:

The bats used for both divisions (U13 and U13-15) must follow Babe Ruth guidelines:

  • The bat may not exceed 34" in length, and the bat barrel may not exceed 2 5/8" in diameter. All aluminum/alloy barrel bats and all composite handle (only) aluminum/alloy barrels are allowed. Only composite barrel bats certified and marked BBCOR .50 will be allowed.
    • The league may incorporate an "all wood bat" week/weekend during the regular season. Wood barrel bats conforming to the specifications of Official Baseball Rule 1.10 are allowed.
