Sample Practice Plan

This is for a 90-minute practice for 10-year-olds, and requires some work beforehand to split players up for stations.  3 to 4 coaches.

  • 6 – 6:05 – Stretching and practice goals with team
  • 6:05 – 6:10 – Base running warm-up (H to 1st and H to 2nd)
  • 6:10 – 6:15 – Throwing warm-up
  • 6:15 - 7:00 – Stations (utilize the USA Baseball app for help on drills)
    • Station 1 – Cage hitting with tee work
    • Station 2 – Outfield – Flyballs, Throwing to bases, communication
    • Station 3 – Infield – groundballs emphasizing form and footwork
    • Station 4 – (Depending on # of coaches) Pitchers throwing to catchers, catchers working on blocking and throwing
  • 7:00 – 7:30 – Situations (these are important to focus on areas of improvement based on past games and practices)
  • Emphasize basic to complex game-like situations.
  • Add in competitive games (e.g., make 9 or 18 outs without making a mental/physical error)
