Tips for Coaches

  • Keep things moving and fun
    • Avoid drills that have large groups of kids standing around
       
  • Use every minute of practice time
    • Lay out practice plan ahead of time
    • Name your drills (helps with familiarity and to keep things moving)
    • Allow players to pick the drills from time to time
       
  • Stay positive and patient
     
  • Challenge your players
    • Try advanced drills to gauge their adaptability
    • This will give you a better understanding of how your players take to coaching

Rules and procedures

  • There is no on-deck swinging…anywhere!!
    • This is a Little League rule
  • No weighted donuts on bats
    • Batting sleeves are permitted
  • Throat guards must be worn on all catchers masks (even for hockey style masks)
  • Catchers must wear cups
  • Batting Face Masks – worn through AAA (Majors is optional) and till 8th grade in softball
  • Softball – Fielding masks are worn starting in 5/6 grade (goes from soft to hard softballs)
